How managers can model good behavior

5 tips on how to help your team get started with Range

As a leader, your team will look to you to understand how to use the product. Early on, this gives you a unique opportunity to role model how to use the product well.

Here are a few tips:

  • Range isn’t just for your team to share their work with you. You should also use it to share your work with your team.
  • The best leaders are transparent with their teams. Try sharing just a little more than you might be comfortable with each day.
  • Range is most useful when it’s a habit for you and your team. To ensure your team gets off on the right foot, be careful to give extra reminders and encouragement for folks to write and share their check-ins for the first three weeks.
  • Team questions are meant to be personal. Sharing your personal life and emotions with your team is a key step in creating psychological safety. When answering the team questions each day, be open and honest about what’s going on. Your team will see that and begin to respond in kind.
  • Recognize work with reactions. Reactions are little ways to thank and recognize your team. Again, your ability to role model is important when using reactions. First off, use them! Don’t be stingy, especially early on — your team will mimic your behavior. Second, be sure to use reactions to give some recognition for the little things that often go unrecognized but are still important.
